Bride stole money to pay off wedding

Wedding prizes and displays are reaching a dangerous edge. A Melbourne bride invited 500 guests to her wedding and then stole $123,000 from her trade union employer to pay for the celebrations.

Victorian County Court judge William White sentenced Julianne Mitrovska to a one-year, wholly suspended, jail term and ordered her to complete 250 hours of unpaid community work.

Judge White said Mitrovska’s car would be confiscated and ordered her to repay the union $123,889.

Mitrovska got into a debt of over $100,000 for her wedding planning but neither her parents nor her husband knew about her crimes. The bride married in 2004, inviting 500 guests to the celebration. Mitrovska’s husband did not give evidence to the court and was reported to be ‘disgusted’ by his wife’s behaviour.

Mitrovska pleaded guilty to eight charges of obtaining financial advantage by deception.
