He's choosing my ring for me and says he has an idea already for what one he's getting me, I'm going to get him a nice watch or chain for an engagement present instead of a ring, as though he'll wear it when we get married he'll be replacing it with the wedding ring, so won't be wearing the engagement ring, but with the watch/chain he'll still wear it.

Default Hi Cherub

I really don't have a clue as to what he is getting, ... I like not knowning although my friends keep telling me that I should tell him exactly what I want, ... I think it's better this way, ... at the end of the day to me, ... it's not the look but what it stands for whats important.
Good luck e-ring hunting to you.

I'm the same, I'm not into big flashy rings or how much they cost, for me it's the thought and the sentiment behind it that means much more then the price tag or the size of the ring.

I don't like fancy rings either and the concern about the price tag is more about a low cost ring than a high cost one. I like the sentiment of course, but I also want to wear one that suits my hand/fingers and one I am comfortable wearing and I want to pick it myself, although it is less romantic. I tried on some white and yellow gold rings yesterday, convinced I would know what I liked as soon as I put them on, but I still wasn't nearer. I felt that the yellow gold looked a little tacky with alot of glistening diamonds. They seemed to be more coloured diamonds. The simple solitaires were better and that is what I would want. The girl in the shop warned me that white gold has to be redipped every so often. My BF suggested platinum to me later on and I nearly fell off the seat, as I had understood that he couldn't afford it. Don't think he knows how dear it is, but it might be possible to get one made at a good price, if I go for lesser clarity or carats etc. I will keep looking anyway. Waiting on the catalogue to turn up still! Nice to read your replies. Thanks.

Jai, that is great. Delighted for you. I tried on some more rings and I decided on a yellow gold princess shaped solitaire. The catalogue finally arrived and I did a shortlist of rings and picked the wedding band as well. I have scanned everything and just have to send it all to the makers now. It will probably be another 2 months before I actually see it.

Thumbs down Engagement & Wedding Rings

Word of advice to anyone getting their rings, consider Turkey, We got all our wedding jewellery, i.e. engagement ring, signet ring for him, Wedding bands, watch & earrings for me which came to the grand total of €4,100 in Kusadasi made to our requirements. Anyone who is planning a summer break or winter break, check out abroad, we are not rip off republic for nothing.
