Movable murals and unique invitations from Puerto Rico to Ireland

Colourful gifts for colourful lives. Weddingsireland talks to Puerto Rican artist Atabey Sánchez-Haiman about her 'movable murals', her personalized cards and moving her studio to Ireland.

In 1995, Atabey Sánchez-Haiman graduated with a B.A. in Biology from Brown University. She has made her home in places across the globe: her native Puerto Rico, the United States, England, Scotland, Spain, and Ireland. While in Barcelona she began painting in acrylics as a primary medium. Her skillful use of color and her ability to portray joy and happiness, distinguish her work.

Mundoatabey.com, her website, offers a glimpse into the artist's world of wonder. Wedding invitations, Thank You cards, baby clothes, bags, housewares, etc.. an entire gallery full of light and optimism. For special occasions, she creates beautiful personalized illustrations using her fun and happy characters.

Her opera prima are her 'movable murals'. These large thin canvases (as big as 3 meters x 3 meters) are nailed or glued onto walls to create a beautiful indoor mural. In the case of a move, redecoration or remodeling, the mural can be taken down and is therefore not lost. The mural can then be moved somewhere else or be stretched and framed.

Atabey is now moving her studio from England to Ireland. Since her first trip to Ireland in 1992, she has had a desire to live here, "this island so like my own in many aspects: politically, scenically, culturally.

"The warmth and quick-witted humor of the people make it a place I want to call home."

Atabey has also begun writing and illustrating children's literature in collaboration with different writers. "This endeavor fulfills my goal of offering children aesthetically attractive, emotionally moving and intellectually stimulating books that will instill in them a lifelong love of reading," she adds.
