Food is almost the best part of a Wedding Day. Wedding menus should try to please every guest's taste, without driving caterers crazy. From toasts to cakes, from veggies to vegans, suiting everybody can be a tricky obstacle.
It is not about being fussy, some people they just have different eating habits. From allergies to moral issues, every diet deserves respect and consideration.
These are three basic rules:
- Get a flexible caterer. You need someone able to adapt to different eating needs, in a creative way. The quality of the alternative meals should be up to the standard of the traditional options.
- Ask for a "food request" note from your guests along with the confirmation of attendance, so you can pass it on to your caterer. We are not talking of eating "a la carte", but indicating if there is any food they can't eat for health or religious reasons.
- Make sure your caterer indicates the different options in the menu.
Some of the options you should tick on your planning list:
-Vegetarians. Vegetarianism has growing popularity, especially among young people, so there might be a good few requesting this option. There are infinite options for amazing veggie courses. Besides, most of them eat fish.
-Vegans. A bit more difficult but nothing a good chef couldn't solve. Unlike vegetarians, vegans don't eat eggs, milk, cheese or any food directly related to animal production. The wedding cake could be a problem here, as they usually content milk and/or eggs. You could check out some vegan cakes or organize an alternative dessert.
-Allergies. In this field there is nothing you can do apart from asking. You can't design a menu for each one of the existing allergies on earth but bear in mind that milk and nuts intolerance are both quite common, so you can be prepared for that.
-Low salt option for people with high blood pressure. Unfortunately, this is a very common problem. Too much salt is not healthy, anyway, so you could try to organise a low salt menu for everybody. That will make the high blood pressure ones feel they are not missing out, integrated, and everybody's heart will benefit too.
-Coeliacs or gluten intolerance. We are not just talking about moral issues here, but serious health conditions. This applies also to allergies. A gluten-free option is a "must" for a wedding menu.
Following this tips, everybody will appreciate your effort and they will enjoy your meal!
